HSI Closes Up 62 pts; HSBC Fares Well 




The three major U.S. indexes closed at new highs last night (9 January). Hong Kong stocks rose for twelve straight trading days. Hang Seng Index concluded higher 62 pts or 0.2% to 31,073. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 33 pts or 0.3% to 12,289. Market turnover totaled $140.626 billion.

HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  +1.150 (+1.421%)    Short selling $320.86M; Ratio 5.546%   bolstered the market and surged 1.4% to more than three-year high, contributing 44% uptrend of Hang Seng Index. AIA (01299.HK)  +0.300 (+0.452%)    Short selling $151.08M; Ratio 11.177%   gained 0.5%. HKEX (00388.HK)  +2.800 (+1.041%)    Short selling $678.55M; Ratio 16.963%   lifted 1% at close after Morgan Stanley raised the target price to $290.
CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.500 (-0.642%)    Short selling $20.58M; Ratio 1.669%   shed 0.6%.

Chinese banks ICBC (01398.HK)  +0.040 (+0.615%)    Short selling $417.03M; Ratio 17.737%   and CCB (00939.HK)  +0.060 (+0.791%)    Short selling $308.50M; Ratio 10.123%   climbed 0.6% and 0.8%. CM BANK (03968.HK)  +1.200 (+3.681%)    Short selling $234.03M; Ratio 20.273%   and CITIC BANK (00998.HK)  +0.230 (+4.492%)    Short selling $61.66M; Ratio 5.434%   rallied 3.7% and 4.5%. However, Chinese insurers receded. CHINA LIFE (02628.HK)  -0.100 (-0.408%)    Short selling $104.04M; Ratio 8.996%   and PING AN (02318.HK)  -1.150 (-1.364%)    Short selling $244.07M; Ratio 7.765%   faded 0.4% and 1.4%. NCI (01336.HK)  -1.100 (-2.031%)    Short selling $70.52M; Ratio 11.746%   dived 2%.

TENCENT (00700.HK)  -3.400 (-0.766%)    Short selling $589.76M; Ratio 7.401%   descended 0.8% to $440.4. SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK)  +0.700 (+0.684%)    Short selling $124.27M; Ratio 8.315%   edged up 0.7%, while AAC TECH (02018.HK)  -3.100 (-2.131%)    Short selling $43.35M; Ratio 6.649%   plunged 2.1%.
