HSI Closes Up 537 pts with Nearly $200B Turnover
The U.S Senate approved the temporary funding to end the shutdown of the Federal Government. Hang Seng Index rose for sixth consecutive trading day. The benchmark index opened higher 212 pts this morning and ended the day higher 537 pts or 1.7% to 32,930 pts, hitting historical high again. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index escalated 285 pts or 2.2% to conclude at 13,490. Market turnover rose to $197.979 billion, registering the highest amount over the previous 2.5 years.
Chinese banks led the market gains. CCB (00939.HK) +0.370 (+4.405%) Short selling $1.02B; Ratio 14.751% and ICBC (01398.HK) +0.240 (+3.385%) Short selling $674.87M; Ratio 12.833% hit the record highs and surged 4.4% and 3.4%. BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK) +0.160 (+3.636%) Short selling $496.52M; Ratio 11.137% escalated 3.6%, marking 2.5-year high. CITIC BANK (00998.HK) +0.370 (+6.036%) Short selling $150.75M; Ratio 10.767% , MINSHENG BANK (01988.HK) +0.400 (+4.768%) Short selling $34.83M; Ratio 3.126% and CM BANK (03968.HK) +1.800 (+4.898%) Short selling $317.95M; Ratio 21.690% rocketed 4.8%-6%, being the best performers of HSCEI constituents. Chinese insurer CHINA LIFE (02628.HK) +0.550 (+2.124%) Short selling $263.73M; Ratio 10.019% leaped 2.1%. PING AN (02318.HK) +0.250 (+0.260%) Short selling $1.82B; Ratio 16.128% inched up 0.3%.

CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK) +0.250 (+0.307%) Short selling $185.29M; Ratio 9.628% rose 0.3%. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) +0.700 (+0.824%) Short selling $297.58M; Ratio 11.765% and AIA (01299.HK) +0.850 (+1.284%) Short selling $227.86M; Ratio 12.285% lifted 0.8% and 1.3%. GEELY AUTO (00175.HK) +1.450 (+5.870%) Short selling $527.62M; Ratio 11.756% shot up 5.9%, being the best performer of blue chips, after chairman had purchased 18.83 million shares with $470 million in the company.
Citigroup expected Macau January GGR to grow 27% yearly to MOP 24.5 billion. Macau gaming stocks fared well.
