Toshiba Share Price Once Slumps Over 26% The share price of Toshiba has nosedived as Japanese press reported that Toshiba will have to make an impairment which would cost JPY500 billion-700 billion (US$4.37 billion-6.11 billion) for the acquisition by its subsidiary Westinghouse Electric over the US nuclear business. Some report said Toshiba will have to sell off its business and assets. Toshiba issued a statement that the amount of impairment loss is still estimating. The share price of Toshiba once plunged by 26.5% to JPY212; it last stood at JPY233.6, down 19%, on a turnover of over JPY139 billion (US$1.21 billion).

HSI Falls 136 pts; Oil Stocks Fade The U.S stocks traded mixed last night (18 January) with Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 22 pts or 0.1% at close. Hang Seng Index slightly opened higher 6 pts and retreated afterwards, with a decline of up to 149 pts to bottom at 22,948. SHCI Bottoms out & Rises 0.17% at Close Shanghai and Shenzhen markets opened down this morning. At close, Shanghai Composite Index and Shenzhen Component Index lifted 0.17%/ 1.17% to 3,108/ 9,826; CSI 300 Index closed at 3,326, up 0.21%. ChiNext Index jumped 2.02% to 1,867. Turnover of the two markets shed to RMB355.58 billion.

Hang Seng Index, after opening higher 101 pts, once sagged 7 pts to bottom at 22,710 but reverted up later on to peak at 22,867. It finished the day higher 122 pts or 0.5% to 22,840.
