HSI Eases Back 69 Pts; Auto Makers Muted
Last night, Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 218 pts or 0.9% on concern over US-Russia conflicts due to Syria tensions. HKD once bottomed at 7.85, first hitting the weak-side Convertibility Undertaking since the implementation of linked rate reform in 2005. This morning, Hang Seng Index opened up 196 pts or 0.6% to 31,094. Yet, with resistance at 31,000, the benchmark index eased back. At midday, it shed 69 pts or 0.2% to 30,827. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 57 pts or 0.5% to 12,267. Market turnover totaled $54.565 billion.

SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK)  +2.800 (+1.831%)    Short selling $86.21M; Ratio 15.435%   and AAC TECH (02018.HK)  +0.300 (+0.208%)    Short selling $18.44M; Ratio 10.210%   lifted 2% and 0.4%. Heavyweight HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  -0.150 (-0.199%)    Short selling $27.75M; Ratio 7.374%   inched up 0.07%. CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK)  +0.160 (+1.584%)    Short selling $4.31M; Ratio 1.649%   and CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.300 (-0.407%)    Short selling $47.47M; Ratio 7.839%   added 1.8% and 0.07%.

Auto makers headed south across the board. DONGFENG GROUP (00489.HK)  -0.190 (-2.162%)    Short selling $6.17M; Ratio 11.907%   and GEELY AUTO (00175.HK)  -0.350 (-1.474%)    Short selling $23.73M; Ratio 7.474%   slumped 2.3% and 2.1%, with the latter being the weakest blue chip. New York oil futures hit over-three-year high amid escalated Syria tensions. CNOOC (00883.HK)  +0.440 (+3.661%)    Short selling $231.21M; Ratio 21.520%   shot up 3.7% to $12.46. PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  +0.180 (+3.255%)    Short selling $165.59M; Ratio 16.942%   surged 3.3%. SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK)  +0.100 (+1.351%)    Short selling $112.20M; Ratio 20.972%   gained 1.6%. Oil services stocks were in demand. CHINA OILFIELD (02883.HK)  +0.360 (+4.483%)    Short selling $1.76M; Ratio 1.172%   mounted 3.9%.
