HSI Falls 253 pts; Financials Weaken Hang Seng Index once tumbled up to 358 pts to 25,177 after opening down 134 pts this morning. The index last printed at 25,282, down 253 pts or 1%. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 137 pts or 1.2% to 11,734. The market turnover amounted to $81.731 billion, less than $100 billion for five consecutive days. Hong Kong bourse traded with a narrowing turnover for consecutive days. BOE minutes show unanimous 9-0 vote to keep rates, QE on hold The minutes showed all nine members were in favor of leaving the key interest rate at a record low of 0.5% and making no changes to the central bank's £375 billion asset-purchase program. According to the minutes , a number of policymakers see rising inflation risks. BoE Governor Mark Carney said last week that the decision to raise interest rates from record lows will come into sharper focus around the end of 2015, his strongest hint yet about the timing of the British central bank's next move. Most market players expect the BOE to begin slowly raising interest rates in mid-2016. GBP/USD was trading at 1.5614 from around 1.5625 ahead of the release of the data, while EUR/GBP was at 0.7002 from 0.7003 earlier. Meanwhile, European stock markets held on to losses. Despite a spate of measures unveiled by the central government to rescue the market, Hang Seng Index plunged 1,313 pts at most to hit 24,750 pts in the afternoon session after edging up 19 pts at the open this morning. The index closed at 25,236, down 827 pts or 3.2%. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index tumbled 337 pts or 3% to close at 12,231. Market turnover climbed to $212.707 billion, the highest level in more than two months. Hang Seng Composite MidCap Index and Hang Seng Composite SmallCap Index dropped 5.5% and 8.6% respectively. The Hong Kong GEM Index plummeted 14.4%. Hang Seng Index continued to open down 22 pts and once hit the low at 25,885 this morning after tumbling nearly 700 pts yesterday. As the ChiNext once rebounded over 6%, the index also peaked at 26,470 afterwards, up 503 pts. It last stood at 26,250 at close, up 286 pts or 1.1%. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 286 pts or 2.3% to 12,981. The market turnover fell to 155.873 billion. For the first half of 2015, Hang Seng Index cumulatively jumped 11.2% or 2,644 pts and Hang Seng China Enterprises Index added 996 pts or 8.3%.
