HSI Rises 39 pts, Led by Tencent
The U.S three major indexes advanced last night (24 January), with Nasdaq Composite Index hitting an all-time high. Dow Jones Industrial Average Index lifted 112 pts or 0.6% at close. Hang Seng Index opened higher 116 pts to 23,066, once reclaiming the level of 23,000. However, the gains narrowed after market open and once bottomed at 22,963. The benchmark index finished the morning trade higher 39 pts or 0.2% at 22,989. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index receded 17 pts or 0.2% to 9,742. Half-day market turnover amounted to $30.753 billion.

Alibaba's better than expected quarterly results sent TENCENT (00700.HK)  +2.800 (+1.416%)    Short selling $92.75M; Ratio 4.184%   higher 1.4%, leading the market. International financial stocks also saw support, with HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  +0.550 (+0.852%)    Short selling $3.91M; Ratio 0.826%   and AIA (01299.HK)  +0.150 (+0.316%)    Short selling $70.04M; Ratio 28.447%   lifting 0.8% and 0.3%. Shares in STANCHART (02888.HK)  +2.200 (+3.030%)    Short selling $8.57M; Ratio 6.046%   shot up 2.7% to $74.55. CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.550 (-0.632%)    Short selling $18.67M; Ratio 4.479%  
and HKEX (00388.HK)  -0.300 (-0.162%)    Short selling $19.67M; Ratio 6.859%   slid 0.7% and 0.3%.

HANG LUNG PPT (00101.HK)  +0.300 (+1.622%)    Short selling $7.03M; Ratio 13.260%   , which will announce its annual results tomorrow, jumped 1.6%. The stock became the best performer of blue chips. Macau gaming stocks SANDS CHINA LTD (01928.HK)  +0.550 (+1.576%)    Short selling $17.36M; Ratio 14.727%   and GALAXY ENT (00027.HK)  +0.750 (+2.107%)    Short selling $12.33M; Ratio 12.924%   added 1% and 0.7%.

Chinese financials traded mixed. ICBC (01398.HK)  -0.020 (-0.423%)    Short selling $43.26M; Ratio 16.493%   sagged 0.4% while CCB (00939.HK)  -0.020 (-0.349%)    Short selling $72.46M; Ratio 16.919%   rose 0.2%. CM BANK (03968.HK)  +0.180 (+0.937%)    Short selling $15.11M; Ratio 22.751%   continued higher 1% today. China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) prohibited insurance companies and parties acting in concert with non-insurance companies to jointly acquire listed companies. EVERGRANDE (03333.HK)  -0.010 (-0.186%)    Short selling $5.56M; Ratio 20.417%   faded 1.1%. CHINA LIFE (02628.HK)  -0.100 (-0.465%)    Short selling $33.54M; Ratio 15.482%   dipped 0.7%. NCI (01336.HK)  -0.300 (-0.791%)    Short selling $15.94M; Ratio 36.395%   issued a profit warning, sending the stock down 0.9%. PICC P&C (02328.HK)  +0.140 (+1.203%)    Short selling $21.51M; Ratio 3.104%   further rose 1.7% and became the best performing HSCEI constituent stock. HAITONG SEC (06837.HK)  -0.220 (-1.583%)    Short selling $16.12M; Ratio 18.043%   expected 2016 net profit to show a yearly decline of 49%, sending the stock plunging 2.2%. The company became the worst performing HSCEI constituent stock.
