HSI Falls 20 pts; CHINA SHENHUA Surges Over 3%

The three major U.S indexes advanced last night (3 January), with Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 119 pts or 0.6%. Hang Seng Index opened higher 50 pts and softened afterwards, hitting the peak/ trough at 22,228/22,086. The benchmark index finished the morning session lower 20 pts or 0.09% at 22,130. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dipped 19 pts or 0.2% to 9,440. Half-day market turnover amounted to $29.704 billion.

HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  +0.450 (+0.714%)    Short selling $13.36M; Ratio 3.963%   and CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  +0.250 (+0.305%)    Short selling $61.97M; Ratio 14.055%   supported the market, with a rise of 0.2% and 0.8% at midday. TENCENT (00700.HK)  -0.400 (-0.211%)    Short selling $166.43M; Ratio 15.208%   slid 0.4%. AIA (01299.HK)  -0.200 (-0.457%)    Short selling $32.64M; Ratio 4.778%   dipped 0.2%. LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK)  +0.110 (+2.296%)    Short selling $23.89M; Ratio 10.765%   was in demand and surged 2% this morning. The company first launched VR headset with selling price of below US$400. Morgan Stanley upgraded the rating and target price of SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK)  +2.550 (+7.489%)    Short selling $58.71M; Ratio 25.181%   , sending the stock higher 7%. Apple-concept stock AAC TECH (02018.HK)  +0.900 (+1.276%)    Short selling $28.38M; Ratio 23.062%   soared 1.6%.

Chinese financials were softened. Chinese banks CCB (00939.HK)  -0.030 (-0.512%)    Short selling $350.71M; Ratio 43.279%   and ICBC (01398.HK)  -0.030 (-0.641%)    Short selling $86.03M; Ratio 17.842%   inched down 0.2% and 0.4%. PING AN (02318.HK)  -0.100 (-0.254%)    Short selling $90.74M; Ratio 25.040%   and CHINA LIFE (02628.HK)  -0.200 (-0.962%)    Short selling $121.22M; Ratio 34.755%   retreated 1% and 0.7%.

New York oil futures dived 2.6% to two-week low. PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  -0.070 (-1.207%)    Short selling $51.69M; Ratio 15.727%   and SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK)  -0.050 (-0.898%)    Short selling $105.47M; Ratio 32.947%   lost 1.7% and 1%, of which the former became the worst performer of blue chips. Shares in CHINA SHENHUA (01088.HK)  +0.480 (+3.279%)    Short selling $56.64M; Ratio 19.954%   jumped 3.8%, becoming the best performing blue chip and HSCEI constituent so far.
