HSI Falls 115pts, Weighed Down by Tencent
On the eve of futures settlement day, Hong Kong bourses traded mixed. Hang Seng Index once peaked at 21,442 after opening lower 34 pts but retreated to the trough of 21,277 before midday. The benchmark index sank 50 pts or 0.2% at morning's close to 21,356. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index advanced 21 pts or 0.2% to 9,037. Half-day market turnover amounted to $30.021 billion.

STANCHART (02888.HK)  +4.350 (+7.323%)    Short selling $19.53M; Ratio 4.497%   reported a 59% slump in the first-quarter pre-tax profit but it swung into profit on a quarterly basis. Shares in the bank escalated nearly 10% in London last night. The stock leaped 7.9% in Hong Kong to $64.1 at midday. TENCENT (00700.HK)  -3.000 (-1.854%)    Short selling $47.90M; Ratio 5.777%   dragged the market and faded 1.5% to $159.4.

GALAXY ENT (00027.HK)  -0.450 (-1.596%)    Short selling $28.39M; Ratio 23.119%   dropped 1% after reporting a 6% yearly rise in first quarter adjusted EBITDA to $2.4 billion. POWER ASSETS (00006.HK)  -1.400 (-1.828%)    Short selling $6.29M; Ratio 4.121%   partnered with CKI HOLDINGS (01038.HK)  -0.200 (-0.270%)    Short selling $7.48M; Ratio 18.928%   to acquire the pipeline assets equity in Husky Energy yesterday (26 April). The two stocks inched down 1.2% and 0.1% at midday.

BOC HONG KONG (02388.HK)  -0.650 (-2.648%)    Short selling $23.09M; Ratio 20.021%   's first quarterly operating income before impairment provisions fell 8.06% yearly and 7.8% quarterly, sending the Chinese bank lower by 2.4%. BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK)  0.000 (0.000%)    Short selling $30.59M; Ratio 10.325%   added 0.3% after reporting a 1.7% increase in the net profit for the first quarter. Other Chinese banks will also unveil their results this week.
