HSI Closes Down 155 pts

Hong Kong stocks headed south today (22 April). European Central Bank (ECB)'s president Mario Draghi said current policies take time to show effects. Market was concerned that the central bank may not have new measures in near term. Hang Seng Index followed external markets to open down 174 pts this morning and once dived 263 pts to hit the trough of 21,358. The benchmark index saw a narrowed decline after morning's close, sinking 155 pts or 0.7% to end at 21,467. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index closed down 127 pts or 1.4% to 9,120. Market turnover amounted to $64.492 billion.

AIA (01299.HK)  +0.850 (+1.850%)    Short selling $469.90M; Ratio 20.936%   once surged 4.5% to peak at $48 on 44% growth in NBV in 1FQ but saw gain narrowed afterwards. It rose 1.9% to $46.8 at close. HKEX (00388.HK)  +3.000 (+1.493%)    Short selling $179.48M; Ratio 10.282%   lifted 1.5% to $204. The two stocks were the best performers of blue chips today.

HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  -0.750 (-1.418%)    Short selling $54.33M; Ratio 4.445%   and CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.600 (-0.653%)    Short selling $272.72M; Ratio 21.006%   shed 1.4% and 0.7% to $52.15 and $91.3 respectively. TENCENT (00700.HK)  -0.700 (-0.428%)    Short selling $239.92M; Ratio 16.844%   saw loss narrowed after midday, edging down 0.4%.

Macau's gaming stocks drifted lower. SANDS CHINA LTD (01928.HK)  -0.750 (-2.582%)    Short selling $156.91M; Ratio 18.775%   and GALAXY ENT (00027.HK)  -0.800 (-2.827%)    Short selling $150.40M; Ratio 23.134%   sagged 2.6% and 2.8%. MELCO INT'L DEV (00200.HK)  -0.260 (-2.703%)    Short selling $7.40M; Ratio 24.445%   , SJM HOLDINGS (00880.HK)  -0.100 (-1.821%)    Short selling $4.41M; Ratio 12.179%   , MGM CHINA (02282.HK)  -0.260 (-2.261%)    Short selling $33.66M; Ratio 38.774%   and WYNN MACAU (01128.HK)  -0.260 (-2.207%)    Short selling $73.52M; Ratio 33.976%  lost 1.8%-2.7%.
