HK Oct Volume of Total Exports of Goods Drops 1.5%The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) released today that in October 2015, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods decreased by 1.4% over October 2014, while that of domestic exports decreased by 14.6%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods decreased by 1.5%. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods decreased by 6.1%.
Comparing October 2015 with October 2014, the prices of re-exports of goods decreased by 1.7%, while those of domestic exports decreased by 3.2%. Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods decreased by 1.7%. Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods decreased by 1.9%.
The terms of trade index is derived from the ratio of price index of total exports of goods to that of imports of goods. Compared with the same periods in 2014, the index increased by 0.1% and 0.6% in October 2015 and in the first ten months of 2015 respectively.
Comparing October 2015 with October 2014, the total export volume to Vietnam, the USA and the mainland of China (the Mainland) decreased by 3.3%, 2.9% and 2.1% respectively. On the other hand, the total export volume to Japan grew by 0.3%, while the total export volume to India recorded a significant increase of 41.6%.
Over the same period of comparison, the total export prices to India, Japan, the USA and the Mainland decreased by 5.3%, 4.4%, 3.6% and 1.5% respectively. On the other hand, the total export prices to Vietnam increased by 0.3%.
Comparing October 2015 with October 2014, double-digit declines were recorded for the import volume from the USA (-18.7%) and Singapore (-11.1%). Concurrently, the import volume from Taiwan and Japan decreased by 6.4% and 3.4% respectively. On the other hand, the import volume from the Mainland increased by 0.5%.
Over the same period of comparison, the import prices from Japan, the USA, Taiwan and the Mainland decreased by 7.1%, 2.7%, 1.8% and 1.6% respectively. On the other hand, the import prices from Singapore increased by 5.4%
