HSI Falls 101 pts; HKEX Sinks Below $200

The U.S. and European bourses headed south. Hang Seng Index followed the downtrend in the external conditions by opening 131 pts lower at 21,773. The benchmark index hovered at 21,800 and ended at 21,803 today, down 101 pts or 0.5%. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gave up 102 pts or 1% at 9,558. The market turnover amounted to $65.986 billion.

Heavyweight HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  -0.600 (-0.986%)    Short selling $454.20M; Ratio 32.447%   slid 1% to $60.25. CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.100 (-0.112%)    Short selling $144.71M; Ratio 13.207%   edged down 0.1%.

HKEX (00388.HK)  -5.300 (-2.603%)    Short selling $410.39M; Ratio 23.852%   declined 2.6% to $198.3, being the worst performing blue chip. The group was said to dismiss its Research & Planning Department. TENCENT (00700.HK)  +1.000 (+0.668%)    Short selling $958.64M; Ratio 33.767%   gained 0.7%.

New York oil prices rebounded over 1% in the Asian session. CNOOC (00883.HK)  +0.120 (+1.446%)    Short selling $291.85M; Ratio 35.806%   perked up 1.4% but PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  -0.070 (-1.321%)    Short selling $33.77M; Ratio 10.295%   softened 1.3%.

China was said to introduce new policies on the automobile market. Several automobile stocks shot up after the midday. GEELY AUTO (00175.HK)  +0.250 (+6.083%)    Short selling $44.01M; Ratio 7.804%   soared 6%. DONGFENG GROUP (00489.HK)  +0.580 (+5.653%)    Short selling $31.14M; Ratio 11.332%   , BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)  +2.150 (+5.276%)    Short selling $73.86M; Ratio 15.064%   and GREATWALL MOTOR (02333.HK)  +0.530 (+5.626%)    Short selling $67.97M; Ratio 14.970%   leaped 6.2%, 5.7% and 5.6% respectively.
