HSI Rises 186 pts; CN Airlines under Pressure
On the futures settlement day, Hang Seng Index opened higher 123 pts and once peaked at 23,016. The benchmark index gained 186 pts or 0.8% to 23,007 at morning's close. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index added 84 pts or 0.9% to 9,582. Half-day market turnover amounted to $28.577 billion.
Blue chips were broadly on a rise. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) +0.700 (+1.258%) Short selling $72.25M; Ratio 15.430% and AIA (01299.HK) +0.950 (+1.971%) Short selling $40.93M; Ratio 9.979% gained 0.8% and 1.7%. TENCENT (00700.HK) +3.200 (+1.589%) Short selling $115.85M; Ratio 13.732% and CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK) +0.300 (+0.311%) Short selling $46.28M; Ratio 10.532% rose 1% and 0.5%. BOC HONG KONG (02388.HK) +0.200 (+0.771%) Short selling $16.31M; Ratio 20.317% , which releases its interim results today, lifted 1%. BANK OF E ASIA (00023.HK) +0.350 (+1.109%) Short selling $9.29M; Ratio 43.069% surged 1.3%. China Securities Regulatory Commission expects Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect to be launched in mid-to-late November, sending HKEX (00388.HK) +2.600 (+1.383%) Short selling $33.20M; Ratio 10.969% 0.9% higher to $189.6.
Chinese aviation stock CHINA SOUTH AIR (01055.HK) -0.320 (-6.349%) Short selling $51.91M; Ratio 48.613% reported 10.4% yearly decline in interim net profit, sending its shares plunging 6.3%. AIR CHINA (00753.HK) -0.160 (-2.749%) Short selling $38.34M; Ratio 61.608% and CHINA EAST AIR (00670.HK) -0.180 (-4.317%) Short selling $36.33M; Ratio 47.387% are also set to unveil their results today. The two airlines fell sharply 2.2% and 3.8%.
AAC TECH (02018.HK) +3.300 (+3.819%) Short selling $29.08M; Ratio 7.524% hit the peak again on solid results. The stock leaped 4.5% at midday.
