HSI Leaps 314 pts, Led by Tencent,  

The US stocks steadied last Friday (11 August) but the increase was curbed due to the intense geopolitics situation between the US and North Korea. Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher 14 pts or 0.07%. This morning, after Hang Seng Index had opened up 208 pts, it soared 327 pts at most in early session to peak at 27,210, recouping 20MA (about 27,189). At midday, Hang Seng Index closed up 314 pts or 1.2% to 27,197. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index recovered 122 pts or 1.2% to 10,695. Half-day market turnover amounted to $48.134 billion.

Technology stocks rocketed. TENCENT (00700.HK)  +11.400 (+3.670%)    Short selling $250.04M; Ratio 4.588%   , which will release the interim results this Wednesday (16 August), jumped 2.8% to $319.2. Apple-concept stocks fared well, with AAC TECH (02018.HK)  +7.900 (+7.404%)    Short selling $37.99M; Ratio 10.031%   surging 6.3%, being the best performer of blue chips. To unveil interim results today, SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK)  +6.100 (+6.321%)    Short selling $60.03M; Ratio 10.046%   shot up 5.5%. Q TECH (01478.HK)  +1.680 (+13.355%)    Short selling $13.58M; Ratio 3.933%   rallied 12.2%.

HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  +0.300 (+0.401%)    Short selling $93.77M; Ratio 9.965%   and AIA (01299.HK)  +0.406 (+0.693%)    Short selling $66.40M; Ratio 14.605%   added 0.7% and 0.9%. Yet, CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.300 (-0.342%)    Short selling $165.38M; Ratio 14.344%   inched down 0.06%. CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK)  +0.740 (+6.503%)    Short selling $85.22M; Ratio 16.852%   spiked 5.6% on the expectation of 69% yearly growth in interim profit. GEELY AUTO (00175.HK)  +0.780 (+4.235%)    Short selling $38.84M; Ratio 5.871%   spurted 4.1%.

The People's Bank of China (PBOC) said it proposed to include some banks' certificates of deposits into the Macro Prudential Assessment (MPA) as from next year. Chinese financials were in good shape. CHINA CINDA (01359.HK)  +0.060 (+1.905%)    Short selling $5.64M; Ratio 3.030%   and PING AN (02318.HK)  +1.300 (+2.321%)    Short selling $124.24M; Ratio 12.819%   leaped 2.2% and 2.4%, being the best performers of HSCEI constituents. CPIC (02601.HK)  +0.750 (+2.206%)    Short selling $29.07M; Ratio 18.612%   , BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK)  +0.040 (+1.058%)    Short selling $78.09M; Ratio 18.379%   , CCB (00939.HK)  +0.080 (+1.262%)    Short selling $100.19M; Ratio 13.060%   and ICBC (01398.HK)  +0.080 (+1.509%)    Short selling $160.44M; Ratio 19.968%   lifted 1.5%-1.9%.
